October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the American Cancer Society is focused on Making Strides against this devastating disease.

On Sunday, nearly 300 people snipped off their locks at A. Rossi Salon in Boca Raton to help fight breast cancer.

All the money is being donated to the American Cancer Society just in time for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. "We figured this was a great way to kick off a great week of festivities in Boca Raton -- come out, get a hair cut and look great for the walk."

It's the fifth year the salon has put on Cuts for the Cure. It was originally started in memory of Linda Martens, a colleague and friend who died from the disease. Since then, it's grown bigger and better every year.

The Boca Raton Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at Mizner Park Amphitheater. Registration starts at 7 a.m.

There is also a walk at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach on October 30.
