Boynton officer dragged by car full of drugs

BOYNTON BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A Boynton Beach police officer was pulled a short distance Wednesday night while holding on to the door handle of a vehicle he had just stopped while the driver attempted to flee.

Police later arrested the driver and a passenger and uncovered a large stash of drugs in the car.

The officer pulled over a black Ford Escape at 9:48 PM driven by Matthew Clark, a Port Orange man who turns 32 on Oct. 30. As the officer was talking to Clark, Clark drove off with the officer's "hand stuck in the driver's door handle," according to Boynton Beach police. The officer was able to free himself a short time later.

Police pursued Clark's Ford until it crashed into a sewage lift station behind 600 SW 4th Ave. Clark and a passenger fled on foot. Both were quickly found with the help of tracking dogs.

Police recovered 16.7 grams of marijuana, 183 oxycodone pills, 74 alprazolam pills, and 20.5 grams of cocaine.

Clark was arrested on numerous drug charges, as well as aggravated battery on a police officer and resisting an officer/refusing to stop.
