Five private FL colleges under investigation for fraud

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WFLX) - Florida is investigating five private, for-profit colleges to determine if they engaged in unfair practices and misled students about financial aid.

Attorney General Bill McCollum's office is conducting a civil investigation.

The schools under investigation are: Kaplan Inc, University of Phoenix Inc., Argosy University of Florida Inc., Everest College and Medvance Institute Inc.

It began in response to consumer complaints and a federal report accusing some for-profit schools of encouraging fraud and engaging in deceptive marketing practices.

Most of the schools say they are cooperating with the investigation.
