DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Police confirm the identity of the woman found stuffed in a barrel in Delray Beach.
UPDATE, WED 9 AM: Fox 29 was first to report the victim is 48-year old Doris Lopez. Lopez's car was discovered parked in a Delray Beach parking lot last Tuesday night. A Hazmat team found her body in the backseat after someone noticed a red liquid leaking from the vehicle.
Previously: Delray Beach police, investigating a large container leaking a red fluid behind the Mellow Mushroom Pizzeria, make a gruesome discovery late Tuesday night.
It all started when an employee in the area noticed fluid dripping from the car and flies buzzing around.
Firefighter responded, believing it was a Hazmat situation with a dangerous chemical. But when police broke open the silver Kia Spectra, they found a 30 to 40 gallon barrel sitting in the back seat. Inside the barrel was a body.
Police believe the car had been there since about noon Tuesday. Investigators do say it took some work for whoever did this to get the barrel in the backseat of the Kia.
Officers aren't releasing the identity of the person inside the barrel; however, they have an idea on who it might be. Police are waiting to release the name after the body is reviewed by the medical examiner's office.
