LANTANA, FL (WFLX) - Theron Johnson is accused of losing track of his 2-year-old son. The little boy was discovered wandering the streets of a local neighborhood by an FPL worker around 9:30 Monday on High Ridge Road and Lake Placid Drive in Lantana.

Reporter asked, "What happened?"

Johnson, father, responded, "I was at work!"

That's the only excuse we got from 30-year-old Theron Johnson. Investigators say his toddler was found wandering alone in the middle of the street barefoot and wearing his pajamas.

The boy's grandmother is grateful the child was found by the FPL worker. "Thank God that God had an angel on him and had him watched, and whoever found him, thank you very, very much."

After talking to police, Johnson is walked out of the family home -- cuffed. Deputies pulling off his belt and patting him down before taking him to jail.

Now, he's facing child neglect charges for allegedly not leaving anyone in charge of his son.

We're told the boy escaped from his grandmother's home in Lantana. Investigators are retracing the boys 1 mile walk to High Ridge Road near Lake Osbourne.

One more left turn, and the boy would have been on one of the busiest roads in Lantana. "It was just a total misunderstanding." Johnson said he left for work while his child was sleeping, and, he thought, his roommate was watching his son.

Neighbors say they've seen the boy get away before, and don't buy the family's excuses.

Johnson appears before a judge Tuesday.
