Worker falls 30 feet inside empty water tank

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A worker fell 30 feet inside a large county water tank, possibly suffering broken bones.

Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue District Chief Jim Gribble said the construction worker fell from scaffolding in the drained tank. Rescuers had to enter the ground-level tank from the side. He was removed and flown to to Delray Medical Center. Gribble said the man was conscious and his eyes were open. He suffered at least a broken leg, Gribble said.

An employee at the plant said the worker was a contractor doing steel work inside the tank.

The scene is at 2956 Pinehurst Drive near Greenacres at a Palm Beach County water treatment plant. The victim is described as a man in his 50s.
