Victim found in barrel identified: Former Hospice worker

DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Police have released the name of the woman whose body was found in a barrel last week not far from busy Atlantic Avenue. They say she is 48-year-old Doris Lopez of West Palm Beach.

While we now know her name, we still don't know a motive for the killing. Also, if police have a motive, they haven't told us.

That's what neighbors of 48-year-old Doris Lopez of West Palm Beach want to know. Lopez lived in an apartment on Forest Hill Boulevard. One of the neighbors says Lopez lived in the apartment with a man.

One woman, who lives across the street, didn't know Lopez, but says she wonders if the killer could be living right in their own neighborhood. "I think it's horrifying," said a neighbor. "It's a horrible thing for any human to go through."

Lopez once worked as a secretary at Hospice of Palm Beach County where, co-workers say, she made a lot of friends. "Anyone who is a member of our Hospice family, we really bond with, and they mean a lot to us, and obviously we're very saddened by that," said a hospice worker.

Iin what is a bizarre coincidence, a convicted Texas killer was found dead, hanging in a motel room in the Florida panhandle last week after, authorities say, he was being sought because a woman's body turned up in a barrel at his home in the Houston area.

Delray Beach Police say the body of Doris Lopez was not dismembered. They say it's an active investigation, and they're not releasing anything further.
