CA plastic surgeon using stem cells for facelifts

LOS ANGELES (WFLX) - Can doctors really use your own genes to make you look young again?

"If this indeed does work, this is the fountain of youth," said Los Angeles plastic surgeon Richard Ellenbogen. He's now using stem cells for facelifts.

The procedure uses fat from the patient's abdomen, and then treats it to separate out the adult stem cells.

The cells are then activated using a special light -- mixed back into the remaining fat -- and injected into the face.

The catch here is no one knows exactly how stem cells work, or if doctors can coax them into becoming what they want.

So, these women you see are testing out the procedure.
