Girls break world record to raise money for friend with Leukemia

BOYNTON BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Eight Boynton Beach girls, ages 7 to 13, attempted to break a Guinness World Record for the longest attached rope of bracelets Sunday.

The current record is 1,000, but Sunday afternoon, the girls completed a rope made with 16,177 Silly Bandz bracelets to help their sick friend.

They named their bracelet rope "The Rope of Maggie" to raise money for their friend, Maggie Schoenfeld, who has been battling Leukemia for five years. Last week, Maggie had her second bone marrow transplant.

The girls took apart "The Rope of Hope" Sunday at the Boynton Beach Mall at 12:30 p.m. and counted the bracelets. After the counting, the girls gave away the bracelets to anyone who made a donation to assist Maggie and her family with medical bills.

They also reached out to local shops and restaurants collecting donations that were auctioned off in front of JcPenny at Boynton Beach Mall.

If you would like to donate to Maggie, please send a check to Boynton Beach Police Department, C/O Steven Schoenfeld.

Donations will be collected until 6 p.m.
