WALKER COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - Another mining operation is seeking to discharge waste water into the Mulberry Fork right on the Warrior River near Cordova in Walker County.

Reed Mineral applied for a discharge permit with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.  ADEM recently approved of the Shepard's Bend mine.

The latest move is a concern to the Birmingham Water Works which depends of the river as a source for 200,000 customers.

Randy Palmer with the Citizens Opposed to Strip Mining on the Black Warrior River also opposes this latest permit, believing it will impact the environment of the area.
