PBSO loses one of their own

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A member of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office died in a car accident Sunday when someone else decided to run a red light. That's according to sheriff's deputies.

Sixty-two-year-old Manuel Velasco had been an airport parking service aid with PBSO since 2004.

Investigators say he was driving a white Chevrolet on Haverhill Boulevard when he was struck. The other driver, 26-year-old James Schaffner, was driving a gold Lincoln on Forest Hill Boulevard, and, deputies say, he ran a red light.

Schaffner was flown to Delray Medical Center and is in critical condition.

The accident shut down Forest Hill Boulevard in both directions for hours Sunday morning.
