Millions of dollars of crops vulnerable to cold temps

BELLE GLADE, FL (WFLX) - The big chill means big problems for farmers and their crops.

A green bean farmer in Belle Glade already lost his corn, and with temperatures expected to dip below freezing again, more crops are expected to be damaged.

Tens of millions of dollars of vegetables in Palm Beach County are vulnerable. Losses that will not only equal less revenue, but less jobs for field workers and packers.

This means, higher prices in the grocery stores. "Normally, we would have a whole month of harvesting until at least January 10, maybe January 15," said one farmer.

Farmers around here say they won't know the total loss until the freezing temperatures end in the next couple of days.
