Police arrest man for snatching purse and Salvation Army kettle

STUART, FL (WFLX) - Stuart police say they've gotten two for the price of one.

A man is now in custody who, they think, swiped a woman's purse from the back of her chair. He's also believed to be the man behind another crime.

Police say John Shakra took the purse while at Duffy's on Osceola in Stuart. It contained $60 cash, personal identification and a cell phone.

It took less than two hours for police to catch up with Shakra who says he dumped the contents of the purse along the way.

Police believe Shakra was also responsible for walking off with a Salvation Army kettle at a Publix on South Federal Highway.

He remains in jail Thursday night.
