Crowd stunned after woman plunges to her death from rooftop bar

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) -  A Lake Worth woman plunges to her death from a popular rooftop bar in downtown West Palm Beach -- all while a stunned crowd looks on.

"[I] Just looked over, saw them arguing, I come out of the restroom, and see her jump off the roof," recalled Aaron Alexander.

He saw it all; the tragic turn of events at Roxy's rooftop bar, Sky309, on Clematis Street in downtown West Palm Beach.

Police say 39-year-old Jessica Harris of suburban Lake Worth fell to her death. "Soon as I look up, she jumped over," Alexander continued.

Alexander was attending Roxy's weekly "In The Biz" night. For service industry workers, this week was a special holiday gathering.

Alexander says when he went to use the restroom, he saw the woman go over the railing. "They were having an argument, yelling at one another. It definitely wasn't an accident," he said. "She just leaped right off the roof."

But, so far, police are calling it a fall, but, they say, it does not appear to be a suicide.

A neighbor of the victim says she recently moved into the neighborhood, and he's seen her with two small girls.

"I was just shocked -- shocked to hear of someone falling off a roof," said Gene Urso. He says he was at Roxy's earlier in the evening, but he left after watching football.

"It's usually a low key crowd. They usually do a good job making sure you got shoes on and no sneakers. It's a good crowd," Urso continued.

John di Natale works down the street. He says he left the party before the woman fell. "[It's] just pretty sad. I hope they solve it. I hope it doesn't give that restaurant, Roxy's, a bad name."

Witnesses say they do not believe the victim was part of the "In The Biz" party. Police say the victim, Jessica Harris, did say something like, "Watch what I can do," before getting on the railing and falling.

A spokesman for Roxy's said: "The bar owners and employees extend their sympathy to the woman's family".

He also added Roxy's rooftop bar complies with all ordinances, codes and state laws. The bar and restaurant remain open.
