Man Arrested For Selling Fake Insurance

LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) The Florida Division of Insurance Fraud said they've busted a Lake Worth man for ripping off someone who thought she'd bought car insurance.

Hector Marcano, Jr. faced a judge Wednesday to hear the felony charges against him.

Investigators said Marcano operated as "American Dream Insurance" on 10th Ave. in Lake Worth.

They said he took $450 from a customer in November of 2009, but never purchased an insurance policy to cover her car.  She only found out after her car was involved in a fatal crash three months later, she was not behind the wheel at the time.

When she went to the company, who she believed held her insurance they told her, her policy wasn't currently in effect.

American Southwest Insurance manages the company that Marcano was supposed to have purchased insurance from.

They told us they couldn't comment because they have litigation pending against Marcano.

Marcano was not home when Fox 29 tried to speak with him.
