Port St. Lucie Mayor Addresses Rumors

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) It was a packed house at the Port St. Lucie City Council meeting Monday night.

But it wasn't an issue on the agenda that drew so many people, but rather one of the members of the council.

Joann Faiella has been the mayor for the city of Port Saint Lucie for less than two months.

Monday night she told her colleagues and city residents enough is enough when it comes to allegations of the city's police chief being fired.

"Is the chief  upset, absolutely," said Faiella.  "Does he want to point the finger at somebody else absolutely, bring it on.  That's all I have to say, but I did not have anything to do with the chief's firing."

After taking office, allegations quickly surfaced that she used her influence to get the city's police chief Donald Shinnamon fired.

The city conducted an outside investigation in to determine if there was a meeting between the mayor and the former police chief to discuss the chief's future employment.

Last week wednesday, the city released the findings from a private investigator who determined there was no meeting.  It turned out the two coincidentally crossed paths at a mutual friend's office to wish that person a happy birthday.
