OKLAHOMA CITY (CNN) - A scene from the holiday film "A Christmas Story" unfolded Tuesday morning when a child got his tongue stuck to a stop sign on the way to school.
The 8-year-old got his tongue stuck to the pole when his older brother dared him. A neighbor heard the child's screams and called 911 for help.
"He was up on his tippy toes and had a large portion of his tongue frozen to the pole, and it took us about a minute of just slowly pouring water over it and then it finally came off," Woodward Firefighter Shane Pringry said.
The child lost a little skin from his tongue and was taken to the hospital but was otherwise unharmed.
