Farmers welcome the rain

PALM CITY, FL (WFLX) - Monday's wet weather was welcomed by farmers and the general consensus, more rain will keep the farming community in business.

Local farmers said at least an inch of rain is required every week in order for them to establish and maintain healthy growing conditions.

'D and D Farms' in Palm City lost 80-percent of its crops during December's Florida freeze. Squash, tomatoes and peppers along with other fruits and vegetables.

Dean Bruschi, the owner of 'D and D Farms' said the mix of dry and cold conidtions has been rough on the farming community.  He said the wet weather is exactly what local farmers are hoping to see more of.

The farming community is hoping temperatures will stay moderate between the 60s and 80s to generate crop growth.
