Robbers clean out a Jupiter jewelry store to the tune of $7 million

JUPITER, FL (WFLX) - Police say robbers used the fact that Provident Jewelry is closed on Sundays to clean out the store.

Investigators say the burglars moved in after the store closed Saturday evening. They scaled the walls and broke through the roof to gain access to the building.

Once inside, they disabled the security system and then took their time breaking into the vault. Rob Samuels is co-owner of the store on West Indiantown Rd. "Obviously someone really good, very well planned did this," Samuels said on Monday, "they probably had all day yesterday to work on the vault."

Police would not let cameras beyond the crime tape, but WFLX has learned from employees that nearly everything in the store was taken. That's about $7 million in merchandise and cash.

Samuels says the company is insured. What may be hard to replace is the lost business opportunity. Samuels says that it is a very busy time of year for jewelry stores.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Jupiter Police Department at (561) 746-6201.
