John Walsh visits South Florida

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The kidnapping and murder of John Walsh's son, Adam, in 1981 was the start of a life mission to catch criminals.

John Walsh told members of the World Affairs Council of Florida Palm Beaches during a luncheon at the Palm Beach County Convention Center Monday, "They didn't know how to search. They didn't know what to do."

The frustration he still carries about the lack of law enforcement tools at the time of Adam's disappearance from a mall in Hollywood keeps Walsh coming back to South Florida.

His show, "America's Most Wanted", has helped capture some of our areas worst accused offenders including Paul Michael Merhige, the man charged with murdering four familiy members in Jupiter on Thanksgiving night in 2009.

"Paul Merhige destroyed a whole family in one day. He took the life of a beautiful, beautiful little girl," said Walsh.

Now, as Merhige's trial date is set for August 8, Walsh joins the victims' family in praying for the ultimate justice.

Walsh said, "I am praying and the Sittons are praying that he won't be able to hide behind this fake insanity plea."

Walsh, who created and hosts AMW now brings his focus to another South Florida case.

On Saturday's show, he'll feature the murder of Theresa Doyle whose body was found in the St. Lucie River the day before she was set to take the stand against a man accused of raping her.

"Ten year's later, we're gonna find that creep and get her justice," Walsh declares.

It's a dedication he has for victims across the country, but especially here in our area.

"I'm from South Florida. There are a lot of tough cases here. It's a great place to live.  Whenever I can focus in and do something like catch Paul Merhige, catch the rapist of this woman, it's the white hot spotlight of America's Most Wanted."

"America's Most Wanted" airs on Fox 29 Saturdays at 9 p.m.
