Florida judge rules against Obama's health care law

(WFLX) - A Florida judge rules President Obama's health care law is unconstitutional.

Based on the individual mandate, which requires all Americans to purchase health care, the ruling renders the entire law illegal. And it's earning applause from the 26 states which joined the suit first filed in the Sunshine State.

Texas Attorney General Gregg Abbott said, "By mandating that the states expand their medicade systems are coercing and commandeering our medicade programs and our state budgets."

Virginia's Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said in a statement: "Constitutional principles have scored another victory today. Liberty has scored another victory today."

Speaker John Boehner and his newly elected republican majority in the house recently passed legislation seeking a repeal of the health care law. Boehner said, "It's not only unconstitutional, it's also unaffordable."

Democrats who oppose the suit are downplaying the ruling's impact.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said, "Health care reform is the law of the land."

One legal expert said the Florida ruling is likely just a stop along the road, and that the case will likely make its way to the supreme court.
