Investigation of Johnson & Hernandez begins

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Tuesday marks the first day of an investigation into Palm Beach County's School Superintendent Art Johnson and the district's former Chief Academic Officer Jeffrey Hernandez.

The two are at the center of an investigation performed by an independent consulting firm for allegedly violating school district leave policies.

Jeffrey Hernandez is accused of using more than seven weeks of paid leave to work as a consultant in Memphis earning about $49,000 from that city's school system during his final five months as an administrator in Palm Beach County.

Parents have alleged superintendent Art Johnson knew about Hernandez's work in Memphis and falsified documents to cover it up. The independent consulting firm will conduct an audit at a cost of up to $38,000.

The probe is expected to be completed by April 30.
