Bald eagle recovering after rescue in Okeechobee

OKEECHOBEE, FL (WFLX) -- An injured bald eagle is on the mend in Okeechobee after being rescued by his brothers. Sort of.

Members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles discovered the bird outside their chapter house last week. Members of Aerie #4509 corralled the bird until wildlife officials could arrive to safely cage the eagle. "We just felt it was a sign of good luck for not just the Eagles, Fraternal Order of Eagles, but also for this nation" says member Diane Houston.

He was taken to Arnold Wildlife Center where veterinarians examined its injuries. The eagle is in pain, says Sue Arnold, "it has what we would refer to maybe as a cracked collarbone."

Despite the pain, the bald eagle is expected to make a full recovery and should be ready to fly again in about a month.

The Fraternal Order Of Eagles raises funds for dozens of charities throughout the year. They have now taken Arnold's under their wing.

Arnold's cares for animals that need help, from birds to baby marmosets, and even a three-legged deer.
