Teen May Lose Leg Following Freak Boating Accident

JUNO BEACH, FL (WFLX) A Palm Beach County teen may lose her leg after a freak boating accident.   The teen was hit by a boat propellor Saturday afternoon at Juno Beach.

"She was scared. She was calling everyone's name and stuff," said friend Kayla Pfeiffer.

Pfeiffer said they were trying to climb into a friends boat, a 22 foot whie Cobia, but the boat was still running at the time.

According to witnesses a wave came by as the teenage girl was jumping on to the boat and pushed her leg into the propller.  Because they were not that far out in the water, the girl's friends were able to get her to shore quickly.

Palm Beach County Rescue workers were on shore.  "It's very fortunate that in some ways that the incident happened where emergency personnel were stationed and were able to respond very fast and provide that critical care in a very short period of time," said Rob Rogerson of Palm Beach County Ocean Rescue.

Doctors at Saint Mary's Medical Center are trying to save her leg. She is in critical, but stable condition.
