Art Johnson's To Be Terminated?

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) It now appears it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when Palm Beach County Schools Superintendent Art Johnson will leave his position.

On Wednesday, the school board decided to put his termination up for a vote at next week's board meeting.

As the school board talked about letting him go, Palm Beach County Schools Superintendent Art Johnson sat silent.

Next week, the board will decide "how" to terminate Johnson's contract, a decision Board Chairman Frank Barbieri hopes goes smoothly.

"My disscussion with the Superintendent's represenatvie has that as an objective, as to figure out a way to do this without any disruption to the district and the superintendent leaves with his head held high so the district could move on," said Barbier.

Barbieri said he's spoke with a representative for Johnson, trying to reach a settlement to end his 10 year tenure.

Johnson is under investigation for his role in Former District Chief Academic Officer Jeffrey Hernandez's pay.

While Hernandez worked for the district, he was also working in Memphis, Tennessee.

Classroom Teachers Association President Robert Dow said that plays a big part in Wednesday night's decision.

"It all came to a head through the Jeffrey Hernandez debacle and through the use of the stimulus money, those types of things," said Dow. "We just need new direction, we need new leadership."
