KENDALL, FL (CNN) - A South Florida dentist is trying to make children's oral hygiene a little less painful for parents.
Dr. Elena Menendez decided to give away free dental care to 200 uninsured families in Kendall, FL.
Cassanda Serralta's 3-year-old son is one of the beneficiaries of the free dental day.
"Since it is free, it helps a lot because dental care is really expensive," Serralta said.
The cost, which for uninsured patients can climb up to $200, often keeps families away.
"As a result, really the child is the one who ultimately suffers because he has to go through pain and infection," Menendez said.
Menendez hopes the experience will bring brighter smiles to little ones her clinic serves.
"He was really good at letting them brush his teeth and now he sees it is important. It is actually tough to get him to brush his teeth," Serralta said.
