Cyclist Ride In Honor of Gary Zimmer

JENSEN  BEACH, FL (WFLX) More than 100 bicycle enthusiasts returned to the scene of a tragedy in memory of a fellow cyclist.

Gary Zimmer was killed last week as he rode his bike on the Jensen Beach Causeway.

Concerned with the number of recent local accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians, the Treasure Coast Cycling Association is spreading the message to "share the road."

The group of cyclists left Indian Riverside Park this morning hoping their ride will get the wheels turning.

"There are going to be more cyclists out on the road, and we want to bring awareness to look out for them," said cyclist John Goings. "People need to know while driving how important it is to pay attention."

The group said Saturday's turnout was better then expected.

They hope to make the rally an annual event, considering Florida has more cyclist fatalities than any state.
