(WFLX) - It was a nail biter to the very end for South Florida. Would our very own American Idol semi-finalists Brett Loewenstern make the cut?

Loewenstern has been a standout since we first saw his tryout in New Orleans. He gave us a taste of growing up being bullied at school. "I would like to say to the people that tried to bring me down, bully me, backstab me, whatever: No negativity anymore. I'm done with being a victim."

And he's shined every night we seen him thus far -- acting well beyond his years. And all his hard work and positivity is paying off. Thursday night, we learned who the top 24 are, and Loewenstern took the last spot!

The way it was revealed was a bit tough, and poor Brett didn't really get a chance to celebrate as he was brought in with two other contestants, Colton Dixon and Jacee Badeaux. The other two did not make the cut.

Staying in character, Loewenstern encourage the other two and reassured their success of making it this far.

Wednesday night, five of the 24 were revealed. Now, onto the other 18.

  1. Karen Rodriguez: A Jennifer Lopez favorite from early on especially since her song choices paid tribute to JLo and Selena.

  2. Robbie Rosen: A rare illness kept him in a wheelchair when he was young, but his life is now more of a miracle story as he is walking and singing beautifully. May not be a standout just yet, but a star could be irrupting soon from him.

  3. Tatynisa Wilson: This was the shocker of the night. Wilson has sang off key and forgotten words several times. I'm predicting an early cut for Ms. Wilson.

  4. Tim Halperin: In addition to his adorable flirting with JLo during his LA audition, he is one of the few contestants who did justice to The Beatles performance. His talent is even further highlighted when he is behind a piano.

  5. Julie Zorrilla: She's the girl who's family escape the war in Columbia. She's captivating; I can't take my eyes off her when she performs.

  6. Scotty McCreery: Despite the whole Jacee fiasco, Scotty has really managed to exude the charm and performances needed to earn his place in the top 24 and beyond. He's extremely polished and knows how to really shine his low baritone voice.

  7. Jovany Barretto: This ship yard builder from New Orleans first got attention for his washboard abs. But, now a month into the competition, he's proven he has more to give than just looks. Barretto's voice is huge, but he knows how to control.

  8. Lauren Turner: This housekeeper has a strong powerful voice and will be a great addition to the Top 24.

  9. Rachel Zevita: She tried out on Season 6 but didn't get too far, but she didn't let a previous 'no' stop her. Zevita is an opera singer, and I would like her to use that to her advantage to standout from the rest of the pack.

  10. Kendra Chantelle: Surprised she moved on as well. Her duet with Paul McDonald was a good performance, but she wasn't the one carrying the show.

  11. Jordan Dorsey: Jordan showed a less than flattering side of himself during group auditions by minimizing the talent of others when searching for new group members. His superior smirk when asked about how he may have insulted others, further demonstrated that Jordan is quite secure with his musical talents and believes his behavior was justified. He may find that Karma and America are less forgiving than the judges.

  12. Lauren Alaina: There was no doubt this contestant would secure a spot in the Top 24. Steven Tyler has been a super fan from the beginning. It's talent like hers that continues to make American Idol relevant. And I want the dress and cowboy boots she wore Thursday night in my size.

  13. Stefano Langone: His positive personality is infectious, and, I think, he's already won some of our hearts, including yours truly.

  14. Jacob Lusk: Wow, this guy is already a star! His performance last week of "God Bless the Child" was said to have been the best performance in  the show's history.

  15. Pia Toscano: Great name and tons of class, this beautiful contestant just may have enough talent to break the curse that seems to lurk over conventionally attractive female Idol contestants who always seem to be the first to go when voting begins.

  16. James Durbin: When I first heard Durbin, I was very impressed by his range -- even comparing him to Adam Lambert. Now, hearing him a few more times, I'm not too sure how accurate I was. But with some quality coaching, he could make it far in the competition.

  17. Casey Abrams: This is my Idol crush. He has the whole package: His personality is entertaining and his talent -- not just vocal wise but instrumental wise -- is incredible. Abrams was hospitalized, however, Wednesday night after complaining of stomach pains. If he is not released and at practice Friday, he will be cut. Cruel but true. So let's pray for a speedy recovery!

  18. Thia Megia: Turns out she was a semi-finalist on "America's Got Talent" back in 2009. But after her voice was lost in her performance of "The Climb", she was eliminated. We'll see what two years has done from this teen.
