Sharks gone: Safe to swim off Palm Beach

PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Swimmers were back in the water Monday at Midtown Beach in Palm Beach.

Sunday the beach was off limits due to sharks swimming close to shore.

Lifeguards said that they are on high alert and double red flags will go up warning beach visitors if any sharks are spotted.

The only warnings posted Monday were for rip current dangers and man-of-war.

Sharks were seen off of Singer Island Monday morning but not Palm Beach.

"That's probably the big mystery because why they pick any particular spot to congregate from day to day ...doesn't seem anyone has that knowledge. They were here yesterday, but for some reason decided to move on to another location today," said Palm Beach Ocean Rescue Supervisor Mark Hassell.

"We just wanted to see them, but I haven't seen any yet," said beach visitor Christina Downey.

"We were here two days ago and it was kind of the same thing and lifeguard was watching and he called, used his horn a lot, called us out a lot. But the kids kind of went up to their waist," said beach visitor Linda Bonadies.

Although the all clear was give for swimmers, most beach visitors seemed content to stay on shore and enjoy the sunshine.
