New School Restrain Policy

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) Changes are being made to the way teachers restrain special needs students.

The Palm Beach County School Board agreed on a new policy.

Its reads that district employees may restrain a student only when the child poses a danger to himself or others. The previous policy allowed the use of restraint when a student's behavior was causing a "high magnitude of disruption."

The policy also bans a practice called seclusion, where a student is involuntarily confined by his or herself.
