Crop duster accidentally sprays school

BELLE GLADE, FL (WFLX) - Palm Beach County Fire Rescue says a crop duster accidentally sprayed an elementary school Thursday morning.

They say the aircraft flew over Gove Elementary School at 900 SE Av G Belle Glade.

Fire rescue dispatched units. At least one administrator was outside at the time and was being treated for possible exposure.

"It's so humid out, it's not dissipating the way it's supposed to," Palm Beach County schools spokeswoman Natalia Arenas told the Palm Beach Post. A teacher had high blood pressure, which alarmed him because he doesn't have a history of it, Arenas said.

Only one patient, an adult, was complaining of burning eyes, fire rescue spokesman Capt. Don DeLucia told the Post.

No students were injured.

They are being contained in the classrooms until the smell dissipates, and are constantly washing their hands. "The kids can really smell it and almost taste it," Arenas said.

The state Department of Health and the school district's Environmental Control Office is at the school investigating.

The school district is talking with the Health Department to decide whether students should be released from class as a precaution. But, so far, no decision has been made.
