PBC school bus aid arrested for sexual battery

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Thony Desir was hired to watch over special needs children while on their way home from school, but now the Palm Beach County bus aide is facing a very serious allegation.

Desir is accused of exposing himself and inappropriately touching a little girl that rode on the bus.

And according to police, he has admitted to the act.

The inappropriate touching occurred Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday, the little girl, who is a special needs child, told her mother what happened. Police were then called.

The family of 39-year-old Desir was waiting for him to return home all evening.

His family says Desir usually arrives home on time every day, but Wednesday was different. That's because Desir was being booked into jail.

At the school board meeting Wednesday night, superintendent Bill Malone acknowledged the incident and said he was disheartened by the news.

"It's upsetting because these kids, by definition, are special needs and so if somebody decides to take advantage of them it's not that difficult to do," says Malone. "They have aides assigned to take care of them and make sure everything is okay, so it doesn't happen often, but when it does it's very upsetting."

An affidavit says the sexual battery occurred just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on the school bus as the victim was being taken to her after school program. The little girl, who is in elementary school, says Desir exposed himself to her and touched her beneath her clothing.

Desir was questioned Wednesday afternoon by detectives and admitted to touching her. He also admitted that what he did was inappropriate.

His wife says she had been calling her husband over and over because he has the keys to the church they attend and was part of the music ministry.

Desir's wife and five children, three girls and two boys, were waiting him so they could all go to choir practice.

Desir faces one felony count of sexual battery on a child under the age of 12. He will face a judge Thursday morning.
