Woman scurries up tree to protest Scripps Research project

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (WFLX) - It was no April Fool's joke.

A woman decided to climb a tree outside of the Palm Beach Gardens City Hall and police station Friday morning to make a statement.

Ana Rodriquez scurried up the trunk and sat on a limb to protest the one year anniversary of what she called the "foolish decision" by the Palm Beach Gardens City Council to give green light the development of the Briger Forest for Scripps Research.

The group Everglades Earth First wants the decision reversed. It says large native pine trees are being cut in an area listed as a preserve.

Palm Beach Gardens firefighters responded to the scene and used a ladder to get Rodriguez out of the tree.

Police then arrested her.
