Turnpike In Stuart Reopens After Fatal Crash

STUART, FL (WFLX) Around 7 p.m. Sunday night, emergency crews responded to a vehicle accident on the Turnpike at mile marker 127 in the southbond lanes. Martin County Fire Rescue confirms four people died. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Ford Expedition was heading southbound with seven people inside the vehicle.

FHP said it appears a rear tire blew and the driver lost control. A few of the occupants in the vehicle were ejected from the Expedition. Four people are confirmed dead, one male and three children. Two children were also airlifted to Saint Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Another adult was airlifted to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.

The Turnpike was shutdown for hours Sunday night as police investigated the accident.
