FCAT exams begin: Take a sample test

(WFLX) - FCAT testing starts Monday across Florida for grades 3 through 11, and this year's exams bring some changes for teachers and students.

For the first time, two tests at the high school level will be administered via computer.  Instead of taking a general math exam, most ninth graders will take a specific end-of-year exam in algebra -- if that matches the math class in which they are enrolled.

FCAT changes come with potential problems. One of the biggest concerns is the wide use of computers this year. More students will be taking tests on computers than ever before. School district officials say they are confident because students have been taking practice tests on the computers.

Students must remember a few basic rules for test taking. Students must not have a cell phone or any other electronic device within arm's reach during the test -- even if it is not visible. If a student arrives at school after the test begins, he or she will not be admitted to the testing site, and they will have to sit in the office until testing is finished for the day.
