Foreclosure Forces Family Out of Home

NORTH PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)  "I'm exhausted. That's all I can say," said Karen Arvidson. Her relatives who lived in a North Palm Beach home have been through a lot. Arvidson's brother-in-law, Chris James, and his family were evicted from their Lighthouse Drive home, the result of a foreclosure. "He has a lot more energy than I do. And he can take more but it's been really hard," she said.

The family knew eviction day was coming, but they thought it would occur sometime in May. But orders to leave were carried out Thursday morning. The family began packing their things, but crews hired by new owners, First National Mortgage Corporation, came in quickly to clean out the home. The crews put many of the family's belongings out on the curb. There was so little time, so many items, that the family couldn't keep up. "Piles and piles of trash all over the yard. You couldn't even see the grass. Big mess," said a neighbor.

"He was really distraught because of all the momentos and things that he had. And I was trying to keep him from sinking down," said Rose Marie James, the former homeower's mother. Chris James once operated Christopher's Creative Designs, a Christmas shop on U.S. 1 in Palm Beach County. The store closed five years ago. James' family has now moved out of the area and has opened a new Christmas-themed store in Perry, Florida.
