Dippolito murder-for-hire case underway

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - She's accused of soliciting a hit man to kill her own husband.

On Monday, 28-year old Dalia Dippolito becomes one step closer to her own judgement day. That's when jury selection will get under way in Dippolito's high-profile murder-for-hire case.

Both the prosecution and the defense will have their work cut out for them as they try to find a panel of impartial jurors.

This case has gotten national attention after a sting in August 2009.

Police set up an elaborate plan that ended with an undercover officer posing as the would-be hit man, who went as far as telling Dippolito that her husband of six months, Michael, was dead.

Her reaction was videotaped and has since gone viral on the Web.

That alone means it will be hard to find any potential juror who hasn't heard of this case. It also means that people nationwide will be watching this trial very closely.

Legal analyst Michelle Suskauer said Dippolito's physical appearance, among other things, may have a lot to do with jury selection.  Prosecutors will perhaps looking for more of a female panel and defense attorneys looking for male jurors.

But despite the hype that seems to surround this case,  both legal teams are focusing on whether she did break state law on solicitation to commit first-degree murder.
