Bob Graham on Osama bin Laden's death

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - Finding Osama bin Laden depended on a series of spy successes.

It reportedly started with a courier's nickname and culminated with the courier leading them to bin Laden's hideout.

Florida's former Senator, Bob Graham, said the administration should be proud of what it has achieved, but that tough questions still need to be asked of Pakistan.

As the U.S. Senate's former point person on intelligence, during a time of devastating intelligence failures, former Senator Bob Graham was astonished at the success of this mission.

"This went flawlessly, from planning to execution, and then to exit, and the disposal of the body," said Graham.

Speaking at a Lynn University forum on citizenship, Graham said the best decision the president made was the riskiest one.  Instead of lobbing cruise missiles from planes, the president chose to go in with a ground team.  The ground team not only took out bin Laden, but they recovered his body and safely removed computer hard drives that may include more intelligence. But now's now time to stop.

"Al-Qaeda has shown its ability to fill voids in their leadership with people that have been prepared and are able to step in and function competently," said Graham.

But now there's a thornier issue, Pakistan. Graham said the US made the right choice in not alerting Pakistanis about the mission. He doesn't take its president at his word, that no one in the government knew where bin Laden was.

"How could you have had this large compound located within a mile of the West Point of Pakistan and nobody have noticed it or had the curiosity to ask what's going on behind that wall?" said Graham.  "I'm skeptical."

The U.S. government said they aren't accusing anyone in Pakistan of anything. But Tuesday, they indicated they will ask the questions Graham wants answers to.
