Stuart teen under tight supervision after rattlesnake attack

STUART, FL (WFLX) - A 14-year-old Stuart boy is recovering after being bitten by an eastern diamondback rattlesnake.

The teen was playing in his backyard when the poisonous snake sank its fangs into his leg. His mother drove the teen to Martin Memorial Hospital.

His condition was so bad, he was transported -- twice. First to Palms West Medical Center in Loxahatchee. Then, he was airlifted to Miami Children's Hospital to get the help he needed right away.

"At first, we didn't know what to think because we didn't know what kind of snake it was. Then, we found out it was a rattlesnake, and it kind of freaked me out," said the teen's neighbor.

Since Wednesday night, the child has been receiving a special IV drip under tight supervision from doctors.
