Lake Worth looking to break ties with PBSO

LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) - The city of Lake Worth is considering going back to having its own police force after contracting with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office for the last two and half years.

It all comes as Lake Worth, like many cities, is dealing with a budget crunch.

City commissioners said a study shows the move would save them about $3 million.

But the Palm Beach County Sheriff's office said the study looks better on paper. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said, "It's not that we haven't worked with them to try to reduce their contract -- because they're under the same constraints as all cities within the state. We haven't had the opportunity to get to that point because there's a rush to judgement to do what they're going to do."

The sheriff's office will have a rebuttal to the report in the next seven to ten days.

In the meantime, Lake Worth will take a closer look at the study at their meeting this Wednesday night.
