Wind Gust Blamed For Chopper Crash

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) A close call for a for a St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputy, whose helicopter crashed Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. off I-95, north of the Okeechobee Road exit.

The pilot is 44-year-old Shawn Sullivan, who's been with the sheriff's office for a year.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff says the pilots injuries are not serious.

The helicopter involved was an army surplus helicopter that the sheriffs office got from the army.

According to our newspartner at T.C. Palm, a gust of wind spun the chopper, causing the crash.
