MIAMI (AP) - An appeals court has rejected Attorney General Pam Bondi's request that two gay marriage cases be delayed until the U.S. Supreme Court decides the issue nationally. The 3rd District Court of Appeal ruled that the cases from Miami-Dade and Monroe counties will move forward.

WALDO, Fla. (AP) - Waldo city officials have placed the acting police chief on administrative leave after fellow officers said he installed city-owned surveillance equipment for personal use and improperly stored evidence. Waldo City Manager Kim Worley announced Cpl. Kenneth Smith's leave yesterday and asked for a commander from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office to take over.

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Tampa Bay area deputy killed a man who was wielding a samurai sword during a domestic battery call. The man with the sword was identified as 31-year-old Terry M. Sellars Jr. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports that deputies responded to a Bradenton home after a woman told authorities her son had attacked her.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Supreme Court is upholding a rate increase by the state's largest utility. The court says the Public Service Commission didn't err when it reached a settlement with Florida Power & Light on a rate increase approved two years ago.
