West Palm Beach warns water may run out

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Water managers issued a declaration of emergency Monday.  Documents show the city of West Palm Beach is estimating it has only a few weeks of its own water supplies left.

With water levels at Lake Okeechobee so low, the West Palm Beach City Commission discussed finding ways to pump more water out of Clear Lake, and continuing to purchase water from the county.

About half the water in West Palm Beach is used for irrigation, so limiting water use for your lawn is the best option, according to the Mayor.

The city wants to crackdown on those who water during the day. Every city worker is being told to keep their eyes open for anyone breaking the rules.

West Palm Beach, Palm Beach and South Palm Beach will now follow a one-day-a-week watering rule.

If you live in those areas and your address ends in an odd number, you can water your lawn on Wednesdays from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m.

If your address ends in an even number you can water on Thursdays during that same time period.
