Tropical Storm Arlene forms in Gulf of Mexico

MIAMI (WFLX) - The first tropical storm of 2011 has formed off the coast of Mexico.

Track Tropical Strom Arlene

Arlene is a weak and disorganized weather-maker, but is slowly strengthening over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

At 8 P.M. Tuesday, Arlene was located at 21.2N and 93.7W, about 280 miles ESE of Tampico MX.

Maximum sustained winds are 40mph and the storm is moving WNW at 7 mph.

On this track, Arlene will bring heavy rains and gusty winds to Mexico the next few days.

South Texas is also hoping for some of Arlene's rains since the state is in an extreme drought.

The storm is no threat to Florida. The name Arlene was last used in the record breaking 2005 hurricane season.
