Police: Officer shoots armed 911 caller

VERO BEACH, FL (AP) - Authorities say a Florida Treasure Coast police officer shot and wounded a 911 caller who pointed a gun at him.

Vero Beach police say 70-year-old James Noble called 911 early Tuesday morning to complain about cars driving into his yard and people walking around.

When Officer Mike Gasbarrini arrived, police say, Noble pulled a .45-caliber handgun out of his waistband and pointed the weapon at the officer. Gasbarrini reported he ordered the man to drop the gun, but Noble did not comply.

Shortly after that, the officer radioed for medical assistance and reported shots were fired.

Authorities haven't said how many shots were fired. The state attorney's office is investigating the shooting.
