Florida made millions selling personal information

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WFLX) The state made $63 million last year selling your personal information - and it's all legal.

The Florida DMV sells the names, addresses and vehicle registration numbers of people who use their services. Ann Howard, a spokeswoman for the DMV, says the information is sold to insurance companies, but not to any businesses involved in solicitation.

"This information cannot be sold to a company that plans to solicit business such as companies that want you to come to their ice cream store and companies that want you to buy their vehicles," Howard said. "Information like that, it cannot be used to solicit clientele and customers."

A group of Florida drivers filed suit against the DMV for selling the info.  The judge ruled in favor of the state.
