Murderer at large in SLC homicide

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Nic Thompson was hoping for a peaceful night's sleep, but his Lakewood Park neighborhood quickly became a crime scene. "I was just laying in bed, and I heard rapid gunfire," said Thompson.

His neighbor, Daniel Charles White, 22, had been shot to death. As of Wednesday evening, no one had been arrested in connection with White's shooting.

The Saint Lucie County Sheriff's Office responded to White's Kenwood Road home at about 4:30 a.m. Investigators said that a party was thrown at the residence.

Neighbors said parties at White's home were a regular occurence. "That house is the cancer of this street. Nothing but kids partying, drinking," said Thompson.

The sheriff's office said the party ended at about 1 a.m. but that a handful of people returned to White's home. "There were shots outside the house and within the house," said St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara. "That's the unknown factor. We don't know who and how many exactly came back," said Mascara of the potential witnesses.

Law enforcement and neighbors said White's house was home to a lot of trouble, including numerous noise complaints and a fatal drug overdose of a woman in April of this year. "That's why the man in that house moved. That's why my brother down the street moved. That's why those people over there moved," Said Dexter Bullington, who lives around the corner.

"He [White] was pronounced dead on arrival at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute after St. Lucie County St. Lucie County Fire Rescue transported him to the hospital," St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara said in a written release. "He is the victim of a gunshot wound," the sheriff added.

Some of the partygoers were still at the scene when police arrived but they left before being interviewed. Anyone with information is urged to call St. Lucie County Sheriff's detectives at 772-462-3230, or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477 (1-800-273-TIPS).
