Emergency management at ease for now

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center isn't ready to make any decisions regarding relief efforts after tracking Irene for days.

After two conference calls with the National Weather Service, County Public Safety Director Vince Bonvento said, "I think we're very fortunate that the models have been very consistent, and all we can expect is maybe some tropical force winds. Because of the size of the storm and the proximity of the storm, we can't afford to let our guards down, so we're still monitoring the storm very closely."

The Operations Center, according to Bonvento, is still in the monitoring phase and not ready to call in state, local and federal officials to its command center in West Palm Beach.

There may be no relief plans set in place for Irene at all, as its projected path isn't expected to cause catastrophic damage in Palm Beach County.

Officials at the Operations Center are expected to have another round of conference calls Wednesday with the National Weather Service to determine if any action is needed.
