Help From South Florida Headed To Bahamas

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Help from south Florida is on the way to the storm-ravaged Bahamas.

A West Palm Beach-based group was in route to the islands with supplies that will be needed in the clean-up effort. Volunteers with the Eagles' Wing Foundation were preparing before Hurricane Irene made landfall in the Bahamas. Crews were gathering supplies, raising money and collecting any donations for islanders.

Volunteers said they were loading up forty tons of supplies, much of which are roofing supplies, were on a boat and several airplanes heading east.

As of Tuesday, the group had more than $115,000 in supplies from big donors like the Home Depot and the Salvation Army. The number was anticipated to be much higher by the time the volunteers left Palm Beach County.

This group is familiar with the aftermath of a hurricane, Eagles' Wing Foundation was founded after Hurricane Floyd twelve years ago. The volunteers have been involved in clean-up efforts ever since.
