Irene still strong, headed along East Coast

MIAMI (AP) - Forecasters say Hurricane Irene has slowed down ever so slightly as it slogs towards the southeaster North Carolina coast.

The National Hurricane Center said late Friday that the storm was moving at 13 mph.  That's down from the 12 mph it was moving earlier in the evening.

Sustained winds are still howling at 100 mph and the center is about 195 miles south-southwest of Cape Hatteras, N.C.

It's still on track to bring hurricane force winds all the way up the East Coast and likely New York CIty over the weekend.
